Jennifer Schuermyer
Owner and operator of A Counting Service, Inc, Jennifer Schuermyer is a full time accountant. She has a degree in Creative Writing from the University of Montana. In 2011, she decided to branch into the family business. Since then, she works diligently to expand and grow the business while maintaining a personal touch with every client she has.
Why do you wake up to serve your clients at A-Counting Services?
A few reasons:
1. I really genuinely like helping people.
2. I have a very keen sense of work ethic. I know that if people rely on me, then I will always give them 100% of myself to complete what needs to be done.
3. I truthfully don't like people waiting on me for information so I'll work hard to not be in that position.
What does “Enjoy the beach” mean to you?
My family has always loved the beach. It's where my partner and I went on our honeymoon. It's where my best memories have been made. Being there gives me a sense of calmness, to listen to the surf, to smell the salt, to walk on the sand, all bring feelings of joy. Enjoy the beach means I will help you with your bookkeeping and accounting (sometimes a necessary evil for some people) so you can enjoy your own example of a beach. Maybe it's camping, maybe it's going to the theater. Whatever it is, I want to provide you with the time to enjoy yourself.
How do you find a balance between work and play?
I give myself the week to work, "pounding the pavement" as they say so I can relax and spend time with my family on the weekends. Unless it's tax season (first 4 months of the year), I'm pretty good at this.
I wasn't always disciplined as with all small business owners, it's hard not to quickly respond to an email at night since our computers are on the phones but it's a work in progress.
Where do you see A-Counting Services in the future?
Right now, I'm trying to grow as much as I can without taking away from any current client. That will always be my goal. As I've said before, my goal in this business is to help people find their beach. If I can take the burden of data entry and reconciliation off your table so you have time to focus on what really matters to you, then my job is done.
I've been in the accounting world for a long time. I remember when I was a kid, my mom would pay me .02 to format floppy discs. I once went as an accountant for Halloween. I knew what a time card was before I knew what it was used for. My overall goal is to keep this business growing and going so I can pass it down to future generations.

A Counting Service, Inc was founded by Donna Schuermyer in 1988. She started it when working from home was seen as a rarity. Now, her daughter Jennifer owns and operates the day to day.
